P4E’s pedigree in the industry stretches back over 40 years (to 1990) when Hester’s mother first set up practice as a Chartered Educational Psychologist. Isobel worked as an Educational Psychologist in Yorkshire, Sheffield, metropolitan boroughs of Bury and Oldham, becoming the Principal Educational Psychologist and advisor for special education during her career in local government. Isobel retired in 2014, and Hester took over the running of P4E.
Isobel worked collaboratively with Hester for over 10 years prior to retirement, passing on her professional knowledge, expertise, resources and focus on providing evidence-based interventions for children and adults. Isobel trained Hester to the same very high professional and ethical standards.
Dr Hester Howells is a qualified and experienced practitioner Educational Psychologist who is inspired by excellence and a love of what she does. Dr Hester Howells completed her degrees, (BSc Honours Psychology, University of Leicester, and MSc Occupational Psychology, University of Hull), Hester worked as a Psychologist in the Prison Service, training Young Offenders and those with drug dependency. She has also worked with large companies as a researcher, developing a workplace-based assessment tool for use by HR managers and Occupational Psychologists. Before taking a career break while her children were small, Hester qualified as a Test User (BPS Level A Certificate of Competence in Testing) and is on the Register of Qualified Test Users. She has been completing assessments since 1998, is a Registered Psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council and a Chartered Psychologist with the British psychological Society. Hester is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. She is an affiliate member of Patoss as well as a Member of the British Psychological Society Division of Occupational Psychology. Many of Hester’s clients have disadvantages (such as low self-esteem) associated with previously undiagnosed specific learning difficulties.

All human beings learn in slightly different ways, depending on their experiences and genetics. Most of us are good at learning some things and less good at others. People with neuro-diverse conditions have unusually large variations in these strengths and weaknesses.
